Murder by Numbers – 'The Devotion of Suspect X' by Keigo Higashino. I was in a continual state of anticipation, and, in the end, completely surprised by the ending. It was simultaneously unbelievable and believable. I quite like that sequence and The Devotion of Suspect X follows a similar story.
